Giovanni D'Oro
Meet the 3 year old colt (born 2004) Giovanni D'Oro (Stable Name - Gio) who is in training with Mandy Rowland in the Midlands for Racing Owners. Gio was purchased from the Irish racing giants Coolmore who paid $270,000 for him in 2005 and as such is bred to the highest of standards.
Lightly raced, Gio is out of the excellent sire Johannesburg (whose major race wins included the Norfolk Stakes, Anglesey Stakes, Phoenix Stakes, Prix Morny, Middle Park Stakes and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. He was also awarded both European Champion 2yo Colt and United States Champion 2yo Colt) who in turn descends from a family including Hennessey, Storm Cat, Storm Bird, Northern Dancer and Secretariat.
Gio has also shown great promise on the racecourse, finishing 2nd at Beverley in June to Smugglers Bay who has gone on to win at Aintree and also finish 4 lengths behind a subsequent group winner. Gio has improved since joining Mandy Rowland and he should be able to make his mark in handicaps around a mile in 2008.
Mandy Rowland trains in the heart of the Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire. Her training complex is extensive and she has access to numerous gallops and also is very close to Southwell racecourse for racecourse gallops on the all-weather surface. She is also ideally located in the heart of England to access all of the UK’s racecourses easily.
Mandy has had great success over the past 2 years on the flat, with one stable star Final Tune running at Glorious Goodwood this year. 25% of her runners made the winners enclosure in 2007 through winning or placing.
